Frequently Asked Questions

  • I work in a publishing house where we do the developmental edit ourselves. Why should we use your editorial impact assessment service?

That’s a good question! The editorial impact assessment is not based on editorial practice but on specific methodologies from my professional background and specialist training.

It is designed to reduce the number of revisions needed after the first round of developmental editing. This improves the editing experience for the author, frees up some of your capacity as an editor, and can lead to a higher quality manuscript that is as future-proofed as possible.

Let’s be clear: this assessment is not meant to replace you as a developmental editor. It will complement your work by providing specialist support.

  • Do you only edit fantasy fiction?

I am always happy to edit in any genre. Fantasy fiction is my passion, my academic background, and the majority of my bookshelves. That said, I devour romance novels, horror and thrillers too, and would love to edit in those genres as well.

  • I really like your editing approach. Do you only edit fiction?

I actually have five years’ experience as an academic editor of both digital and print content, so I love to dip back into my roots and work on non-fiction where I can. I recently edited a manuscript on political history, one on a Scottish author, and another about a French literary icon.

I also have experience of editing Phd theses. If you’re interested in my non-fiction or academic services, please contact me for more information.

  • Do you offer payment plans?

Payment plans can be agreed on an individual basis. Please contact me for more information.

  • Do you require a deposit for your services?

A 25% deposit will be required upfront for my services.

  • Why don't you offer line editing?

Because my editorial approach is more beneficial in the developmental editing stage, this is where I’ve decided to focus my help. I am qualified and trained in line editing and copy-editing, and if my workload is quiet, I will always be open to helping authors where possible.

My line editing fee is £0.009p per word. Please get in touch if you’d like line editing and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
